Dr Lieberman is my absolute hero. He and his staff have completely transformed my life. He listened to me, also explained to me what I was experiencing and why. His compassion and kindness is unbelievable. He is also the most approachable Dr. I have ever met. I actually look forward to going for my treatment as you feel like part of a family. I cannot praise Dr Lieberman all of his team and the clinic enough. They should be used as an example of what good care is.

After 13 years of pain from a knee replacement, and having seen five surgeons, I was lucky enough to see Dr. Lieberman. He listened to me with great patience, and then suggested patches to alleviate the pain; so far, after a month, the trauma has been greatly reduced – I can hardly believe it. Such a pity NHS North West doesn’t accept the validity of these patches – perhaps eventually they will change their minds, they certainly should.

This doctor is the first doctor that explained to me what fibromyalgia actually is in simple terms that I could understand. He is friendly and easy to talk to. I was able to ask questions and didn’t feel rushed. I’ve seen a lot of doctors and this is the best consultant I have ever seen! I felt so relieved after the appointment as I finally understood my condition and the methods to improve it. 🙂

My consultation with Doctor Lieberman was one of the best I have ever had he took the time to explain in layman’s terms all about my symptoms and at the same time made you feel at ease, just wish over the years that other Doctors had the time to explain about things. My experience suggests that Dr Lieberman has a genuine interest and determination to support his patients in the management of their chronic pain. During my consultation with him he actively listened to my concerns and offered me a patient focused solution to help reduce my level of pain. He was friendly, calm and reassuring and this approach combined put me at ease immediately. I have since had trigger point injections in my neck and shoulders and injections in my forehead and even though it takes approximately 2 weeks to work, the episodes of shoulder pain have already reduced in intensity, frequency and duration. I’m remaining hopeful that things will continue to improve and if so Dr Lieberman will not only have improved the quality of my life, but have afforded me the ability to stay in work for longer with less sick time. I am extremely grateful to him and his team for supporting and treating me with great compassion and humour. Thank you very much.

I have been suffering chronic, all over body pain for 9 years. I have seen one doctor after another and been prescribed a plethora of drugs that have impacted negatively on me. In addition, I have been consistently misdiagnosed, until I had a consultation with Dr Lieberman, who in one consultation, listened to my symptoms, read through my notes and provided a diagnosis that was my medical experience to the tee. This now means I can be more clear about my condition and how to manage it and get the correct intervention and support. I can’t thank Dr Lieberman enough. Just the acknowledgement and understanding made a huge difference to my state and I now feel more hopeful for the future.

Hello. Well my two weeks are up tomorrow had the botox injections by Dr lieberman , as I said in my last review. I’ve been in horrible pain but it’s getting a little easier with the help of my normal pain medication “( morphine ) but by no means I’m not giving up yet on this treatment. I’m still being postive. I’m wondering if there’s anyone else who has had the botox injections in neck and shoulders! !!! And is dealing with this pain ” I would very much like to know. It would help me to understand the reasons for this pain ” hopefully this is going to get better. I’m sure that when I return to Wythenshawe hospital and see Dr lieberman in 3 months time that he’ll not let me down and we’ll try enough treatment if these botox injections don’t work for me. But I’m still be postive. Please anyone who is going to have these injections don’t be concerned because if it doesn’t work for me “it doesn’t mean that it won’t work on other people. Dr lieberman did his best for me ” and I’ve got great faith and trust that he’ll have other options for me thank you k wilson

Hello yes I’ve already wrote a review great doctor and staff .as I said in my last review was very happy with Dr lieberman. But I would very much appreciate if, I knew a little bit more about the side effects of the botox injections I had in my neck and back. I’m well aware that’ I won’t know if this is going to help me until next week as Dr lieberman explain to me it takes two weeks. But I’m in horrible pain in my neck and shoulders in fact I feel 100 % worse since haveing it done .I’ve been doubleing up on my pain medication (morphine ) but I’m quite willing to go through this if within this two weeks that I have a result at the end of this .I’m very greatful to doctor lieberman to help me . But to be quite honest I’m a little worried and concern ” that I’m not going to be in this situation for the next 3 months .would be so helpful if I had someone just to reassure me that this horrible pain will decrease in the next two weeks .manys thanks k wilson

Dr lieberman was very good made me feel and my husband ” that he was going to help me, explain what the best treatment would be for me ” and would try to give me a little bit better quality of life. He was listening to what I was saying , and made me feel that he would do the best he could for my medcal problem’s. Explained to me that the treatment which I would receive, would take about 2 weeks before I would start to feel better. And it didn’t take long for my appointment to drop in my letter box . I must also thank the nurses and staff .there were very nice and careing. When I had the injections .I’ve been in some quite bad pain since haveing them done .but I’m sure any procedures that we have ” all have some side effects .but I’ve great faith and trust in Dr lieberman .hopefully I will see some results within the next week .as I’m going to be flying on a big bird to see my family .thank you Dr lieberman and staff .

The staff as they always are were, were marvellous with me in every regard and I felt secure. I do feel that he is in an old section of the hospital and could do a better service for the NHS if they were equipped with a means of putting people unconscious at times as I don’t seem able to accept a local . Very full use of this treatment will save and keep more old dodderers like me at home instead of taking to much time at or in a bed useful to others. thank you again B.king

This review is a little belated, but I would like to thank Dr Lieberman and his team for outstanding patient care. From admission to discharge I felt totally safe in the hands of him and his team. All of the nursing team were very attentive. One nurse, in particular, whose name I don’t have (petite, dark bobbed hair with glasses) was very reassuring and the atmosphere whilst being friendly was also very professional. Cleanliness of the unit, despite the fact, I suspect it is one of the oldest parts of the hospital was excellent. My procedure was explained to me, prior to and during my treatment. I was put totally at ease and now have no fear of ever re-visiting the department. My procedure has worked extremely well for me. As I don’t have medical experience, I can’t suggest improvements to the unit, but would sincerely hope that any equipment, lighting or other needs would be met for this very successful clinic. Thank you. Sandra Barlow

And then all he said was I will send for ultra sound waist of my money and waist of my time I was very angry when I came out he took all of 20 minutes so no im not happy with the service

Response from Dr Ilan Lieberman

hi
I’m really sorry that your experience was not what you had wished for and that you felt the £11 spent on travelling to the clinic was wasted. The evidence shows that the biopsychosocial environment that patients experience chronic pain within has a great bearing on their pain experience and gives some guidance on how to approach a solution. Clearly in your case the reasons for these questions where not made clear and thats obviously not been helpful, apologies. Hopefully the ultrasound investigation that has been ordered may shed some light on some of the causes of your pain and if you choose to attend for follow up please bring along any questions that you want answered so that we can begin to get you on a path to rehabilitation.
Regards Dr Lieberman

I have had overall a very positive experience with Dr. Lieberman. A distinction of his consultations was that he was able to present a range of solutions and in the end we decided to opt for the tougher but much shorter-term option – a choice I was very pleased with. The consultations were structured in a collaborative manner and I would walk out of each session with a solution-orientated mindset. This allowed me to manage the complexities of the problem and I would soon be the orchestrator of my recovery. I have to thank Dr. Lieberman for his expertise and patience on the subject as there was a lot of noise to cut through when identifying the underlying issue. He has a very personable character and is a pleasure to talk to.

I been under the care of Dr Lieberman since 2014, and my most recent appointment with him was in January this year. I suffer with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which has affected my left arm and hand. I have attended numerous appointments, and on each occasion I have found Dr Lieberman to be professional, caring, sincere, and friendly, which is a difficult combination to get right. Dr Lieberman has given great thought to the treatment of my condition, and has recommended and carried out a number of advanced treatments, when it would have been much easier for him to just prescribe me some strong pain-killers, and send me on my way. Dr Lieberman’s knowledge and understanding through his research, of the causes and treatment of C.R.P.S.,is second to none, and under his care, and that of his excellent staff, my condition has significantly improved. No-one wants to be in pain and have to attend hospital, but if you are, Dr Lieberman is the Man with the Plan! Finally, I would just like to say ‘Thank you’ to Dr Lieberman, and I would recommend anyone who suffers from long term pain to ask to be referred to his clinic.

I have attended the Pain Clinic at Wythenshawe hospital under the care of Dr Ilan Lieberman and his team who in my opinion are the very best health provider I have met over many long years of treatment. I usually don’t like going to hospital and get nervous and anxious but this is not the case at this clinic because the service and people are so outstanding that it is like visiting very useful friends. If only all NHS services could be like these doctor and support nurses and administration staff! A couple of weeks ago I attended for Stellate Ganglion Blockage with Dr Lieberman using a much longed for piece of equipment that made my treatment less painful, much quicker, less stressful for both me and the doctor, more accurate therefore lowering the change of mistakes because the medication could be injected into the correct place rather than into a blood vessel, artery or any other delicate and vital area of my neck. I was dismayed, however, to see the sign the much needed equipment was only on hire but it is essential there is one available at all times to enable Dr Lieberman do his job correctly and to minimise litigation due to serious injury and serious consequences for all concerned. I sincerely hope I never have to have my treatment without this essential piece of equipment. If such equipment he could see more patients than he can without it therefore help reduce waiting times therefore improving the NHS waiting list of patients waiting for treatment. I cannot stress enough how much this treatment makes to my life because before being referred to the tender care of Dr Lieberman I was being admitted to our local hospital at least five times a year. I am extremely pleased this has resulted in not being admitted since 2002. A long as I can get my treatment every three months it enables me to live a very productive life I spite of being 75 years old and a wheelchair user with heart disease. None of this would be possible without Dr Lieberman and his wonderful staff for which I will be eternally grateful. Thank you everyone for being a First Class Team. Margaret Burrow, MBE.

I left this doctor In tears. And in no way shape or form did he give any details of how to manage my pain. After waiting 4 months for this appointment I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I started to state where my pain was and never got off my first symptom before he cut me off, questioning the diagnosis I had from another Doctor. I tried to ask him if I could do anything to help the pain myself and the only information he gave me was to try Polar tis which would then fix itself within 5 years. I don’t believe he listened to anything I had to say and didn’t greet me straight away until he finished playing with he’s mobile phone. I left this so called appointment feeling none the wiser and even more confused than when I arrived.

Response from Dr Ilan Lieberman

Although I don’t recall this particular consultation I am really sorry to read that you were dissatisified with the consultation & I appologise for that. Its never my intention to deliberately upset people or spend inadequate time with them although this has clearly occured in your case. As you can read all of my previous feedback has been very positive and the nature of this type of anonymous feedback is that it’s open to all and from my perspective enables the clinician to be reflective about their practice. So thank you for taking the time to feedback, even though it made uncomfortable reading. If you wish I’d be happy to see you again and see if we can achieve a more helpful outcome. No hard feelings. With regards to the phone, I dont have a “bleep” and the expected way for me to be available for advice to other healthcare professionals, patients and sadly my managers is though my phone. The nature of my practice means that on some occasions I can’t just switch the phone off as much as I would like to. It’s also important to appreciate that sometimes consultations within the context of the management of chronic pain can be distressing and may challenge views, cognitions, behaviours, beliefs and previous diagnoses. I appreciate that can be a very challenging experience. Clearly the outcome for you on your visit was not what you had hope for or expected & if we meet in the future I’m confident that we can achieve a better outcome for you. I hope the Pilates classes are helping. BW Dr Lieberman.

Feedback for Pain Clinic with Dr Lieberman I suffer from 3 different chronic and largely untreatable pain conditions as a result of MS. They are all life inhibiting and are only ever going to worsen. Before coming to the Wythenshawe pain clinic I have seen and been written off by another pain clinic, two neurosurgeons, had two unsuccessful and damaging brain procedures, been told I had exhausted all available medications and would have to learn to live with the pain. I, therefore, cannot convey the delight to be seen by Dr Lieberman. While he has been totally upfront about the likely low outcomes from other treatments he has provided a varied treatment plan with options and previously unexplored medications. It is so refreshing to see someone who thinks outside the box; does research on new treatments; appreciates what it means to live with chronic, unending agony; and most importantly can communicate all of that concisely and with consideration. Both he and his team have been helpful, efficient and have an amazing turn around time. Unlike my previous experiences, I have not been left for months on ineffective medications, I have not had to wait for hospital to GP communications before accessing medications, I have not been told my symptoms do not fit. Instead, I have been treated like a person with a lifelong affliction. Both Dr Lieberman and myself recognise that this isn’t going to be cured but giving up is also not an option. I have hope again and that has value beyond measure.

I attend the Pain clinic every ten weeks to have my morphine pump refilled. Dr Liberman leads a well managed and courteous hospital team of nurses and specialists. I find the team to be extremely helpful, kind and considerate to my needs. They always make sure that I am aware of what is happening during the course of the procedure and Dr Liberman has a great sense of humour which helps me to relax. The pain clinic is run on a professional and caring manner and I therefore have no suggestions as to how it could improve. Obviously there are occasional times when I might have to wait longer then expected but there are always good reasons for this which is explained.

Having suffered with severe back pain for several years I have now been seeing Dr. Lieberman for over 2 years. Without his help & support I don’t know how I would have coped. I’m quite an anxious person but Dr. Lieberman always makes me feel at ease listening to any concerns I have and helping me through.

I’d like to thank doctor Lieberman for his support and treatment for my central pain syndrome, as he is aware my condition has been very difficult to treat but doctor Lieberman has been professional through out my care, giving me honest answers regarding my complex centralised pain syndrome. He has been a support mechanism for me and Amanda in these trying times, where other departments dealing with my condition have left me and Amanda frustrated. I’d like to thank him for his support regarding my medication (Sativex spray) as this has giving me some relief from the constant pain.

I have been suffering from a horrible back pain for about 20 months, and shuttled from place to place without really getting anywhere. For the first time since this started I feel that I am being listened to. Dr Liebermann has a very friendly and personable approach, and a good sense of humour. I feel as though I am now on the right track to get this problem resolved.

I have been a patient of Dr Lieberman since 2009 and I am being treated for Neuropathic Pain. I have not been the easiest of patients to treat due to allergies but Dr Lieberman has found the right treatment plan for me and my pain has reduced to a more manageable level. On a more personal note, everyone I have encountered at the Pain Clinic has treated me professionally, with the utmost courtesy and respect. I have been kept fully informed throughout my treatment and any question I had were answered honesty and thoroughly. I cannot commend them highly enough.

This is the 1st appointment my wife has had, and so it is difficult to make a considered judgement. But the omens are good! Dr Lieberman’s proactive approach and his friendly inter personal skills, gives the patient (and carer) hope and encouragement. If Dr Lieberman can succeed where others have failed, it will result in an almost “life changing” situation, and will enable my wife (and carer) to lead a life that most people take for granted.

Dr Lieberman has a brilliant manner, speaking in a precise and honest manner. He is definitely a doctor with excellent person skills, he has a warm sense of humour and relaxed manner that hide a brilliant clinical mind. Dr Lieberman knows when to fight to support patients and knows when to argue for a treatment that is unorthodox for a patient.

NHS financial problems are well known, but the service provided by Dr Lieberman & Co is excellent.Professional and efficient, but the big change over the last few years is a more open policy where procedures are explained and patients treated as humans.

Having had a permenant headache for over 5 years & having been passed from Dr to Dr and being told to “live with it” by many, Dr Lieberman was the first Dr to take the time to understand my problem & work towards finding a solution. From day one I have found him to be very professional yet personable & I have total trust & faith in him. I have today received my fourth lot of treatment within the pain clinic & can honestly say that the medical & admin staff within the department are excellent. From seeing a nurse to be booked in, the theatre staff (holding my hand & letting me squeeze whilst I received 25 injections across my forehead, temples & neck), the nurse who brought me a hot drink once it was all over & the receptionist who booked my next appointment & came to find me in the waiting room to confirm it was ok. Overall an excellent service, a treatment that has massively improved my daily life & a Dr who listens & didn’t give up on me. Thank you to Dr Lieberman & his wonderful team for excellent service.

An excellent doctor. His diagnosis put me on right track. Two new knees and injections in back mean that it is now possible to live a near normal life. He has a great team and I suspect that`s because he is good to work for. The staff are kind and attentive and one is always made to feel at ease and valued as a patient. Just wish they wouldn`t make me want to laugh when I`m lying on table with needle about to go into my spine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A BIG THANK YOU

I had a referral to Dr Lieberman because of chronic neck pain and being told by a doctor in a private hospital they couldn’t help me as I have a subluxation, atrophy of spine, neurones died, no recoverable cord, I have spasticity of limbs and felt bleak about getting relief of constant pain each day. He welcomed us into his surgery read all my notes and agreed with what he had read in my notes then became more interested in helping me by getting some relief from pain for me in the future. They are so caring and find time to discuss your health without rushing you through the clinic reassured me if I needed him before next clinic visit please feel able to ring in a emergency.
